Architectural shading for glass façade
Two 26 m² drop arm awnings made of Soltis 92 as an addition to AX-I systems — wind-stable, elegant and perfectly integrated into the metal cladding.
Tailored Sun Protection as a Stylish Architectural Addition
As part of a sophisticated project in Switzerland, two new drop-arm awnings were installed, each with a 26 m² sail area, serving as a stylish complement to the existing AX-I systems from 2015 in the courtyard. These new awnings provide significantly more shade, offer enhanced wind stability, and feature a sleek, modern design — without articulated arms.
The previous shading system struggled to block low-angle sunlight and was repeatedly damaged by wind due to slow retraction. The new SunSquare solution sets a new benchmark in both performance and aesthetics.
Integrating the awnings into the existing metal cladding posed a technical challenge due to limited space, but was executed with precision and elegance. A compact metal canopy with a drip edge offers additional protection when the awnings are retracted.
A custom-designed rubber buffer was developed specifically for this project to prevent rattling in windy conditions. When opening, the system is gently pushed away from the wall until the weight of the roller stabilises it — a subtle yet effective detail.
The installation was carried out by Guggenberger GmbH, whose expertise and attention to detail ensured a flawless result.
SunSquare stands for refined, reliable, and visually striking sun protection — ideal for high-end architecture and durable solutions in both private and commercial settings.
