BMW Welt Munich

Custom SunSquare sail systems for the BMW Museum: eight sails. Automatic wind sensor for maximum safety.

Textile architecture for the BMW Museum

Exceptional architecture calls for exceptional solutions – as seen at the BMW headquarters in Munich. Back in 2007, eight SunSquare sail systems were installed at the site.

At the time, sails with battens were used, as the now-standard radial cut had not yet been developed. In 2016, the systems were modernized: new fabrics made from high-performance Soltis W96 material and featuring the radial cut have since provided a sleek and elegant appearance. The SunSquare solution offers reliable protection from sun and rain while meeting the highest safety standards – a wind sensor automatically retracts the sails in strong winds, ensuring long-term operational safety.

This project is a striking example of the fusion of architectural vision, technical innovation, and sustainable comfort.
