FORMDEPOT Vienna | Showroom
On the rooftop terrace of FORMDEPOT Vienna, two SunSquare shade sail systems demonstrate how textile shading can function as an architectural element in outdoor spaces.
The main terrace is shaded by a SunSquare SQK‑I system with a sail area of 45 m². Originally installed in 2016, the system has been upgraded this year with a new sail fabric. For the first time, the newly introduced Sattler 321 quality in colour 083 Forge has been used - an intentional choice highlighting materiality and refined colour expression.
The fact that, after nearly ten years, only the fabric has been replaced while the structure and mechanical components remain fully operational underlines SunSquare’s commitment to sustainability, longevity and serviceability.
The triangular system is equipped with a manual height adjustment at the F‑support. By lowering the sail roller, both the shade progression and the drainage behaviour can be flexibly adapted to changing weather conditions and usage—an essential feature for consistently comfortable outdoor environments.
Complementing the main installation, a small, single‑sided rectangular sail with a 13 m² surface area is also installed on the terrace. This system is fitted with Soltis 92, a water‑permeable fabric designed specifically for pure sun protection, ideal for areas where light transmission and openness are paramount.
As a meeting place for architecture, design, clients and planners, FORMDEPOT brings all trades together under one roof. Within this context, the two SunSquare installations are not only functional shading devices but an integral part of the spatial concept, demonstrating how textile technology, material selection and architecture can form a cohesive and convincing whole in outdoor space design.
