WINX Tower Frankfurt

Five SunSquare shade sails provide 170 m² of sun and rain protection, complete with wind sensors, on the roof terrace of the WINX Tower in Frankfurt.

Exclusive terrace quality above the rooftops of the Main metropolis

In the heart of Frankfurt's MainTor district, right on the banks of the Main river, the striking WINX Tower stands as one of the city's architectural landmarks. Its unique location combines urban working with easy access to the banking district, the old town, the Museumsufer, and the main train station. In 2019, an extraordinary terrace landscape was created on the 7th floor, transformed into a true oasis of well-being by modern SunSquare sun sails.

Long-standing SunSquare partner Volker Weiss VW sunsails . outdoor . project planned and installed five SunSquare systems that reliably protect the spacious roof terrace from sun and light rain. The individual sail sizes range between 29 and 37 m², with the systems covering a total area of around 170 m². The harmonious arrangement of the sails creates a cohesive overall look that blends perfectly with the building's modern architecture.

A distinctive design feature of the project is the layout of the supporting structure. For architectural reasons, a conscious decision was made not to mount several units on shared supports. Instead, each sun sail has four supports of its own. The layout is modelled on the multi-stemmed planting on the terrace and creates a harmonious interplay between the architecture, the shading system and the landscaping.

For the fabric, high-quality Dickson Orchestra acrylic fabric was chosen in the elegant color Gris . The subtle shade of gray underscores the timeless design of the terrace and complements the clear lines of the WINX Tower perfectly.

Since the terrace is located on the 7th floor of the WINX Tower is located, the systems ensure safe operation with their intelligent control. An integrated wind sensor continuously monitors weather conditions and automatically retracts the sails if wind speeds become too high. This protects the system while ensuring the terrace can be used safely.

The spacious outdoor area offers building users an attractive retreat in the heart of Frankfurt's vibrant city center. Thanks to the high-quality SunSquare systems, the terrace can now be used much more frequently – whether for relaxing breaks, informal conversations, or moments of rest in the fresh air. The reliable sun and rain protection creates the perfect conditions for a pleasant experience above the rooftops of the metropolis on the Main.
