Colourful shading for kindergarten

Colorful sun and weather protection for a kindergarten in the Lower Rhine region

Children spend a large part of their day outdoors. It is therefore all the more important to create protected play areas that can be used safely even on sunny days. For a kindergarten in the Lower Rhine region, SunSquare sales partner Volker Weiss implemented a custom outdoor shading solution in 2020.

The project utilized a freestanding SunSquare spring-tensioned system in a double-triangle design with a sail area of nearly 50 m². The sail spans the play area, providing reliable protection for the sandbox underneath against intense sunlight and light rain showers.

A special highlight of this project is the custom-designed, striped sail fabric. The colors used were Amande (green) and Méditerranée (blue) from the high-quality Dickson Orchestra collection. The cheerful color combination brings vibrancy to the outdoor area while blending harmoniously into the kindergarten's surroundings.

Protection from UV radiation and increased outdoor comfort

Effective protection from direct sunlight is especially important for children. The SunSquare shade sail creates a pleasantly shaded area, allowing outdoor spaces to be used for educational activities even during the summer months.

The shading reduces direct UV exposure, ensuring children can play, build, and explore without worry. At the same time, the sandbox remains usable for longer during light rain and dries out more quickly after precipitation.

Freestanding design for maximum flexibility

The installation was designed as a freestanding system with four supports. This allowed the shade sail to be positioned perfectly over the play area without requiring any modifications to existing buildings or facades. The result is a high-quality, durable, and low-maintenance sun protection solution that significantly enhances the kindergarten's outdoor space and provides children with a sheltered place to play for many years to come.
