Spacious shading for the roof terrace of a corporate headquarters in Dortmund

As part of a new building project at a company's headquarters in Dortmund, a high-quality shading solution for the roof terrace was planned and implemented by Volker Weiss in 2024. The goal was to create an attractive outdoor area for employees while simultaneously reducing solar heat gain on the adjacent window surfaces.

The project utilized a linkedDual-unit system. With approximately 64 m² of sail area each they span a significant portion of the roof terrace, creating a spacious, comfortably shaded lounge area.

The sails were crafted from high-quality Sattler 314 acrylic fabric in the color 660 Sage . The natural green tone harmonizes with both modern architecture and landscaped outdoor areas, giving the roof terrace a premium, inviting atmosphere.

More comfort for employees and the building

Modern office and corporate locations are increasingly prioritizing attractive outdoor spaces. Shaded roof terraces create additional areas for breaks, informal meetings, or relaxed social interaction in the fresh air.

At the same time, the positioning of the sails ensures that not only the terrace area but also the adjacent window sections are shaded. This reduces direct sunlight on the facade and provides additional relief for the building during the summer months.

The system thus combines architectural design, employee comfort, and sustainable climate control into a functional, all-in-one solution.

Sturdy construction for large spans

The two radial sails were designed as a free-standing structure with four floor supports. Robust Floor mounting plate, which allow for secure anchoring on the roof surface while ensuring seamless integration into the architecture.

The combination of generous sail areas, high-quality materials, and precise planning has resulted in a durable shading solution that sustainably enhances the company's outdoor space.
