Over 250 m² of sun sails for the outdoor dining area at Wilma Wunder

In the heart of Düsseldorf, an exceptional SunSquare shading solution was created in 2017 for the rooftop terrace of the restaurant pavilion belonging to Wilma Wunder. The popular dining concept combines regional cuisine, a modern atmosphere, and a welcoming environment. For the spacious outdoor terrace, Volker Weiß implemented a custom sun sail system that impressively blends design, functionality, and comfort.

A total of six SunSquare sun sails with individual sizes ranging from 30 m² to 57 m² were installed. Together, they create a fabric surface area of over 250 m², providing guests with extensive sun and rain protection . This allows the terrace to be used for a significantly longer period, regardless of intense sunlight or changeable weather.

A particular planning challenge was to perfectly align the sail system with the building's striking architecture. The six sun sails were arranged so that their geometry, when viewed from above, traces the contours of the property. The result is an architecturally sophisticated shading solution that is not only functional but also highly recognizable from a distance.

For this hospitality project, the choice fell on the high-quality Soltis W96 fabric in white. In addition to its elegant appearance, the material was chosen primarily for its fire-retardant properties, which play a crucial role in the hospitality industry and high-traffic public areas. At the same time, the light-coloured fabric creates a pleasant lighting atmosphere and a welcoming ambiance on the terrace.

This project impressively demonstrates how modern Hospitality shading, Patio roofing with sun sails, high-quality Sun and weather protection for restaurants and sophisticated architecture can merge into a harmonious overall solution. Furthermore, automated SunSquare technology ensures convenient operation, high wind stability, and long-lasting performance for daily restaurant operations.
