Modern living in Switzerland

Custom SunSquare Solution in Switzerland: Two sun sails providing rain protection, thermal insulation, and harmonious integration.

Shade for Rooftop Terrace and Pergola

This private residential property in Switzerland was completed in 2024 – but without the planned shading. It quickly became clear: the rooftop terrace was unusable, and the pergola on the ground floor offered no shade, as the young grapevines had not yet grown enough.

Hermann Guggenberger developed a custom solution using SunSquare sun sails that impress both functionally and aesthetically.

Rooftop (Upper Floor): Model SQS
  • Fabric size: 17 m²
  • Mounting: On the façade and the existing railing (including reinforcements)
  • System: Slim steel wave system for optimal force distribution along the railing
  • Control: Radio-controlled
  • Fabric: Sattler 321 for excellent sun and heat protection
Ground Floor: Model AX solo
  • Fabric size: 24 m²
  • Mounting: On a delicate, custom-designed support structure with minimal impact on the existing pergola
  • Effect: Canopy-like character with efficient shading and rain protection
  • Water drainage: Via a 60 cm wide strip of Soltis 86 behind the wave – prevents puddle formation and sail deformation
  • Fabric: Sattler 321 for high density and thermal protection
  • Coating: Metal parts color-matched to the existing structure – for a harmonious overall appearance
