SunSquare rectangular sails protect glass domes in the Botanical Garden Zurich – custom-made, planned with Mag. Gerald Wurz.
Shade for Diversity – Custom Sun Sails for Sensitive Plant Environments
In the Botanical Garden Zurich, individually designed SunSquare rectangular sail systems (AX solo) have been installed in several greenhouses – including the tropical house, subtropical house, and savannah house. Thanks to these sun sails, the glass domes of these structures are now effectively protected from overheating caused by direct sunlight.
Each system covers between 17 and 22 m² of sail area, made from the high-quality, dual-colored fabric Soltis 92-2046 Alu/Silk. The sun sails not only provide functional protection against sun and heat, but also blend harmoniously into the architectural design of the greenhouses.
This sophisticated project was custom-developed and implemented by Guggenberger GmbH in collaboration with SunSquare inventor and designer Mag. Gerald Wurz. It impressively demonstrates how technical expertise, design competence, and tailored solutions can successfully meet even the most complex requirements – precisely where others reach their limits.
